Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. —RUTLAND—Rutland’s acoustic Song Circle, a fixture here in music-sharing for close to 30 years, is continuing during the Covid pandemic using the Zoom app.
On the first and third Wednesdays of the month, anyone interested may log in on a computer or smart phone to join the circle. Participants take turns playing and singing songs, while others are muted. (Jamming together doesn’t work on Zoom with internet connections commonly available.)
Circle leader Gus Bloch, a local musician, instrument teacher, and erstwhile band leader, hosts the circle, designating whose turn it is according to order of sign-in. The group meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 7 p.m.

The sponsor of the song circle is the informally organized Wild Woods Music Co-op, which began on April 7, 1993. On that date, Doug Norford of Brandon called together area fans of “non-commercial” music at the Harlequin Movie House on Center Street.
In both open-mike and song-circle formats, at a handful of locations, the activity has continued since then. Crowther has coordinated the Song Circle for more than 20 years.
