Phoenix books hosts virtual events

Saturday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.—RUTLAND— Join Phoenix Books virtually for a series of author chats and readings through out November. On Saturday, Nov. 7 Robert Broder will lead a virtual story time of his book, “Crow & Snow,” at 11 a.m.

Being apart can be hard, but the very truest of friends never lose each other. This heartfelt and beautifully illustrated picture book follows the special friendship between a scarecrow and a snowman throughout the seasons.

Being a scarecrow can be lonely. Spending his day keeping birds away doesn’t leave Crow with many options for friends. Then one snowy day, the children on the farm build a snowman. Crow and Snow are fast friends and winter passes happily in each other’s company. Then Snow goes away. Crow misses his friend and thinks of Snow during the warm seasons until they can be reunited again.

Robert Broder is a picture book publisher and writer. He is also an amateur snowman builder. He lives in Vermont with his wife, daughter, dog, and two cats. Visit him online at RobertBroder.com.

This event is free and open to all.  Registration is required at phoenixbooks.biz/event/robert-broder-crow-snow.

On Tuesday, Nov. 10, join Jaida Jones and Dani Bennett in a conversation with Emily X.RR. Pan for a virtual celebration launch of “Master of One.”

Sinister sorcery. Gallows humor. A queer romance so glorious it could be right out of fae legend itself. “Master of One” is a fantasy unlike any other.

Rags is a thief—an excellent one. He’s stolen into nobles’ coffers, picked soldiers’ pockets, and even liberated a ring or two off the fingers of passersby. Until he’s caught by the Queensguard and forced to find an ancient fae relic for a sadistic royal sorcerer. But Rags could never have guessed this “relic” would actually be a fae himself—a distractingly handsome, annoyingly perfect, ancient fae prince called Shining Talon. Good thing Rags can think on his toes because things just get stranger from there…With the heist and intrigue of “Six of Crows” and the dark fairy tale feel of “The Cruel Prince,” this young adult fantasy debut will have readers rooting for a pair of reluctant heroes as they take on a world-ending fae prophecy, a malicious royal plot, and, most dangerously of all, their feelings for each other.

Jaida Jones and Dani Bennett are married co-authors, who live in a haunted Brooklyn brownstone with eight cats, two parents, and one grandparent.

Dani spent her wild youth in the PNW, learning to climb trees in the local cemetery and reading through every family dinner, school day, and summer vacation. She knows how to ride a horse but not how to drive a car. Jaida is a native New Yorker who spends too much time on Instagram and is currently passionate about tattoos, animal rescue, and slow fashion. Their published work includes four novels from the Volstovic Cycle. “Master of One” is their young adult debut, and you can find them at jonesandbennett.com.

This event is free, but registration is required at phoenixbooks.biz/event
