Local towns support ballot articles, mostly

Budget Article (Rutland City)

“ARTICLE 1: Shall general obligation bonds or notes for the City of Rutland in an amount not to exceed One Million Four Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ($1,450,000) subject to reduction from available state and federal grants-in-aid, be issued for the purpose of financing the cost of acquiring former College of St. Joseph property consisting of approximately 20.4 acres of land, together with buildings and improvement thereon, located at 71 Clement Road, including the athletic complex and related fields?”

Yes — 5,160

No — 2,339

Budget Article (Killington)

“ARTICLE 1: Shall the Town adopt amendments to the Town of Killington Vermont Zoning Bylaws that modify Section 120—Definitions and add a new Section 404—Short-Term Rentals of Dwelling Unit which requires a short term rental registration?”

Yes — 482

No — 262

Budget Article (Fair Haven)

“ARTICLE 1: Shall the voters of Fair Haven vote to authorize the creation of a charter for the purpose of initiating a local option tax?”

Yes — 575

No — 656

“ARTICLE 2: Shall the voters of Fair Haven assess a one percent (1%) local otion sales tax on all eligible sales, rooms and meals sales and alcohol sales in accordance with 25 V.S.A. 138 and use those revenues to pay down wastewater treatment faciity bonded debt?”

Yes — 627

No — 619

This split vote in Fair Haven is a challenge for town officials as Article 1 needed to pass in order to create a charter for Article 2 to be enacted.

Article 2, a 1% option tax, failed by three votes on Town Meeting Day 2020. Though it passed this time, its fate is unknown without the charter passing.
