Halloween food drive to benefit local food shelf
Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 5:30 p.m.—RUTLAND—On Wednesday, Oct.28, from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., VELCO is hosting a drive-through trick or treating event at its Pinnacle Ridge campus to benefit the food shelf at Fair Haven Concerned. Families are encouraged to attend in costume and requested to please bring a nonperishable food item to donate to those in need as we enter the holiday season.
The Covid-19 pandemic is having a dramatic impact on our lives. VELCO would like to provide an opportunity for families and children to safely celebrate Halloween and collect desperately needed food donations in support of our community. Fair Haven Concerned Executive Director, Ashley Bride said, “Fair Haven Concerned is grateful for VELCO’s longstanding support and partnership with our organization. We are seeing increasing numbers of families and children suffering from food insufficiency because of COVID-19. Our neighbors have been so generous supporting our community organization but we must continue to seek new opportunities to gather support for those in need.”
“VELCO’s vision is to create a Sustainable Vermont and that starts with well-fed families and children,” said VELCO organizer, Betsy Bloomer, adding, “we are grateful for this opportunity to support one of our beloved community organizations that cares for those in need. Please throw on a costume, grab a nonperishable food donation, and join us for a fun night of community spirit!”
The VELCO campus is located at 366 Pinnacle Ridge Road in Rutland Town. Trick or treat guests are asked to stay in their vehicle as they drive through the collection circle. Event organizers will follow safety protocols including wearing face masks and gloves as they collect food items and hand out individually wrapped, store bought treats.
