Billings’ film showing of “Wadjda” breaks barriers

Saturday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. — WOODSTOCK — Billings Farm & Museum, gateway to Vermont’s rural heritage, will host the award-winning film “Wadjda” on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. as part of the 5th Annual Woodstock Vermont Film Series.

The first-ever film feature shot entirely inside the Kingdom – and notably the first Saudi film made by a female director – “Wadjda” tells the story of a young girl’s determined quest to buy a bicycle, in a society that sees bicycles as dangerous to a girl’s virtue. In a country where cinemas are banned and women cannot drive or vote, writer-director Haifaa Al-Mansour has broken many barriers with her new film. The film is subtitled and rated PG. Awards: British Academy of Film and Television Arts, Nomination, Best Foreign Film; additional 20 wins, 20 nominations.

Tickets prices for members: adults 16 and up, $9 per film; children ages 3-15, $5 per film. Non-members: adults 16 and up, $11 per film; children ages 3-15: $6 per film.

Billings Farm & Museum is located one-half mile north of the Woodstock village green on Vermont Route 12. For a complete list of screenings and ticket info, visit billingsfarm.org/filmfest or call 802-457-2355.
