Bee distracts driver causing rollover

On Wednesday, Aug.19 at around noon, troopers from the Vermont State Police Rutland Barracks were notified of a single motor vehicle roll-over crash on Vermont Route 140 in Poultney.

On arrival the vehicle was resting on the driver’s side and obstructing both travel lanes.

All occupants got out of the vehicle on their own. Through investigation it was determined Nolan B. Patch of Danby was traveling west on Route 140 when a bee distracted him.  While engaged with the bee, Patch traveled off both sides of the roadway and ultimately rolled the vehicle onto its side.

All three passengers in the car were taken to Rutland Region Medical Center for treatment of injuries. Carter Patch, 4 years old, was found to be  improperly restrained, and Nolan Patch was issued a civil citation for driving on roadways laned for traffic, and child restraint systems.
