100 photos of four-legged friends shared

The Killington Community comes together over a common love for their pets

By Brooke Geery

This week Flor Bolige posted a call for people to share pictures of their four legged friends (rather than attacking each other for having out of state plates) on the Killington Locals+ Facebook group.  The request worked, and over 100 adorable dogs soon graced the thread, which is a good reminder that for dogs, social distancing and self-quarantine aren’t so bad. After all, it means their people are home for lots of attention and walks. We decided to check in with a few of our favorite dogs’ owners to learn a bit more about their pets, and also see how they’re handling the current situation.

Maricela & Evan Ehmann, Killington

Ronaldo is a 7-year-old teacup chihuahua.

We are adhering strictly to the stay at home order. We have two young children and make sure to have a good balance between lessons, mindfulness and physical activity. We are lucky to live here and be able to just step out the door with the kids and dogs for fresh air and activities. Making the best of it by embracing our time together as a family and taking it one day at a time.

Dorien Morin, Pittsfield

Jasper is a 6-year-old black lab mix.

We’re working from home – thanks to ECfiber. We also go on long hikes, cook and bake and watch tons of Netflix.

Heidi Henderson, Killington

Left is Revvy (singing the song of her people) and right is Icelyn (looking like she does not want to hear the song anymore), they are 6-month-old Bernese mountain dogs.

Spending days sheltering in has given me plenty of opportunity to train the wild beasts and to spend some quality time with all my girls outside.

Tom Moore, Rutland

Mac is a plott hound rescue.

Healthy, spending a lot of time in the woods with Mac and getting to a lot of projects that need attention…just a little more attention, not done, just revisiting them.

Joe Sessock, Bomoseen

Bromley is a 6-year-old goldendoodle.

I own Beverage King Market & Deli here in Bomoseen. I keep busy here and am a member and volunteer for the Green Mountain Club. I also am an aspiring Winter 46er in the Adirondack Mountain Club.

Bob Rosenberg, Bridgewater.

Silas is 4 years old.

We are in hibernation mode, avoiding everyone.

Heidi Soos, Hartland

Bernie and Cricket are Labradors.

I have 11 Labradors ranging from 10 weeks to 6 years. They keep me entertained and very busy. I don’t know what I would do without them, they keep me sane in these times.

Michael Caldwell, Park City, UT (lived in Killington for 10 years)

Zeus is a “rez dog” (mix breed rescue from a reservation in New Mexico), a couple weeks shy of 3 years old.

Getting through this pandemic one day at a time. Lots of long hikes with Zeus, cooking new recipes, watching “Tiger King,” puzzles, painting, and spontaneous living room dancing.

Eric Solomon, Nassau County, NY

Duncan is a 1-year-old chocolate labradoodle.

We live in Nassau County but have been Killington renters for 3 decades. We now share a house on Coffeehouse Road with our closest friends. We are doing our best… social distancing, working from home. Lots of family time!
