Sunday, March 15 at 9 a.m.—RUTLAND— Rutland Jewish Center is organizing a 1-Day University for the Rutland community on March 15 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Nearly two dozen classes will be offered by community members who will share their passions and expertise on subjects ranging from bagpipes to conflict resolution and DIY beer to investing with your values and birdwatching. Nobody pays and nobody gets paid, so it’s all free!

“This will be an outstanding one-day event that will bring the community together to explore, enjoy, learn, share, and of course, eat. It’s a day designed for people who think every day is a great day to share knowledge and build community,” said Ted Molnar, who is coordinating 1-Day University.

Baxter Holland of Rutland will present “Everything You Ever (or Never) Wanted to Know About Bagpipes,” followed by a short concert at 1-Day University.

Most classes will last an hour, and some will offer experiences beyond the presentation. After learning how to fix a flat bike tire, people will try out an e-bike. DIY beer will include sampling the beers created by Frank Gorham of West Rutland. Ukelele class will end with participants playing a sing-along number.

Free coffee and tea will be available throughout the day; bagels with all the toppings plus pastries will be offered for sale.

Todd Walker of Wells, principal of Greenvest, will show how to “Invest Profitably With Your Values” at 1-Day University.

“The goal is for everyone to be inspired, enlightened and entertained, to discover new ideas and interests — and have a great time doing it,” Molnar explained. “Plus no tests or grades – just the pure joy of learning.”

“A wonderful idea,” agreed Pat Hunter of Rutland, who will present a class on conflict resolution. “We will all benefit from the exceptional community building that 1-Day University offers.”
