Climate Action Film Festival to screen top 9 short films, Feb. 12

Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m.—MIDDLEBURY—The final films for the Climate Action Film Festival have been selected. After receiving over 250 entries, the field has been narrowed down to nine amazing short films to make up our single-evening 80-minute program. The  premiere screening will be held  in Middlebury at the Marquis Theatre & Café on February 12. Tickets are limited and available now. The price of admission is pay-what-you-can, with all proceeds to benefit local climate action groups. The films showing include:

“#NatureNow” by Tom Mustill (4 minutes). Greta Thunberg and George Monbiot tell us how natural solutions can repair our climate.

“Rise: From One Island To Another” by Dan Lin (6 minutes). Indigenous poets from the Marshall Islands and Greenland share a moment of solidarity.

“Valve Turners” by Steve Liptay (9 minutes). Documenting what Reuters calls “the biggest coordinated move on U.S. energy infrastructure ever undertaken by environmental protesters.”

“Water Warriors” by Michael Premo (22 minutes). White and indigenous families in New Brunswick unite to drive out a natural gas company and protect their water.

“Keeping Carbon” by Jon Bowermaster (12 minutes). Exploring regenerative farming efforts in New York’s Hudson Valley.

“Words Have Power” by Lynn Cherry (6 minutes). 13-year-old Jaysa speaks out at public hearings and helps catalyze opposition to a coal-fired power plant near her Connecticut hometown.

“Blue Carbon” by Benjamin Drummond (6 minutes). Exploring the climate benefits of wetland restoration in Washington’s Snohomish Estuary.

“Naturally Selected” by Jimmy Evans (9 minutes). Miami environmentalist Sam Van Leer fights to save his city from drowning.

“Extinction Rebellion – Times Square Takeover” by Joel Bach (7 minutes). A staged demonstration in the middle of Times Square disrupts business-as-usual to draw attention to the climate crisis.
