KMS cyclists find the podium in N.Y. and N.H.

KILLINGTON — On Saturday, Oct. 11, the Killington Mountain School cycling team headed to Rochester, N.Y. for the Ellison Park Cyclocross Festival, where they competed in another great weekend of cyclocross. Coach Brad Ramsay explained that the course was set on a hillside, and had more climbing than most, which also meant a lot of fun descending! There were also barriers, Belgium steps, logs, and a steep run-up to round out this awesome course.

There were many spills, flats, and broken bikes, especially because the barriers were low enough to tempt many to try to ride over them. There were also a lot of gutsy performances where, in spite of bad luck or other mishaps, rider after rider pushed hard and finished the race to the best of his/her abilities.

KMS Cyclist Noah Barrow had a great race, taking the top spot on the Cat 3 Men’s podium on Saturday, while Turner Ramsay took third place finishes in the Women’s Cat 1/2/3 field on both days.

The crew then headed to Cardigan Mountain School in Canaan, N.H. for the ongoing Lakes Region Interscholastic Mountain Bike Series, to compete on one of the team’s favorite courses. The course was marked by a lot of single-track and many technical features.

Barrow managed to hold off the competition in the Men’s A field to take yet another top spot on the podium. In the Women’s A race Ramsay had mechanical issues that forced her to switch bikes, but she managed to fight back and grab the third-place spot.
