Rutland resident that escaped from Southern State Correctional Facility located eight hours later

On Oct. 6, Anthony Fitzgerald, age 23 from Rutland, escaped from the Southern State Correctional Facility in Windsor, Vt. Fitzgerald was reportedly working outside at the farm portion of the correctional facility. Initial investigation revealed that the inmate cut the wire fence to escape. Fitzgerald was said to have escaped from the facility at around 9 a.m. on Oct. 6. He was reported back in police custody just after 5 p.m. that same day. Police located the subject walking along a road in Ascutney after a citizen called in, police reported.

Fitzgerald was described as a white male, 5’9” tall, weighing approximately 275 pounds with brown eyes, brown hair and a Mohawk haircut.

Fitzgerald was arrested in December 2010 by the Rutland City Police for lewd and lascivious conduct with a child in Leicester, Vt. Fitzgerald plead guilty in 2011.

Fitzgerald will likely face a felony charge of escape from custody.
