ACCESS awarded top news magazine show in New England

RUTLAND – ACCESS, PEGTV’s weekly half-hour news magazine, was awarded first place in the news and magazine format category for the 2014 Alliance For Community Media-New England Video Festival. PEGTV competed with public access stations all over New England and will accept their award this October in Nashua, N.H.

ACCESS celebrated its fourth anniversary on Sept. 5. ACCESS debuted on PEGTV with the purpose of showcasing events, activities and people of Rutland County.

Amanda Wheeler is the host and producer of ACCESS. Since launching the show Wheeler and her production team have traversed the county covering a wide range of stories, including the Crowley Race, visiting Neshobe Island, Gift-of-Life Marathon, Castleton Nursing Program Accreditation, Dancing with the Rutland Stars, Giant Pumpkin Farmers in Benson and highlighting volunteers in the County.

“Traveling Rutland County, meeting new faces, attending events in and around the area is an honor. It is a privilege to tell the stories of people like Ernie Sule and Steve Marro. To visit with area faculty and highlight the work they are doing to make education exciting for students and see firsthand how they are making a piece of Vermont’s heritage (maple sugaring) accessible to kids – and stressing its importance in our economy is intriguing. Raised in Vermont it gives me great pride to see the positive things happening around the state, especially here in Rutland County,” said Wheeler.

Several new segments have been added recently, including Out & About, A Senior Moment with tips on healthy aging, Golf tips and Garden Variety.

In its fourth year on the air, and through the generous support of corporate underwriting partners, ACCESS reached its goal of becoming a financially self-sustaining production.  PEGTV is comprised of Channels 15, 20 and 21 and is available to all cable subscribers throughout Rutland County.
