KMS cyclists mount the podium at Kirkland Cyclocross

KILLINGTON—The Killington Mountain School Cycling team traveled to Clinton, N.Y., on Sept. 13-14 to compete in the Kirkland Cyclocross Race. This race was the first of the New York Cross series.

Coach Brad Ramsay reported that it was a great course, with “power sections, sand pits, mud, run-ups, off-camber corners, and all the fun stuff!”

Jonah Mead-VanCort raced with the Elite Men, taking a spot on the podium with his third place finish. Turner Ramsay raced with the Elite Women and finished strong in eighth place, and Chris Welch won the Men’s U-19 race.

On Saturday, Chris Welch, age 15, rode the Mt. Greylock Hill Climb in North Adams, Mass. Though the results show him finishing an impressive third overall, many who watched him fly past them claim there was a timing glitch and feel that he actually had the fastest time to the top. Regardless, it was an impressive ride for this young KMS athlete.

The following weekend, Saturday, Sept. 20, the KMS cycling team got to stay home, competing in a mountain bike race at Rutland’s Pine Hill Park.
