Sept. 27 & 29 — RANDOLPH & CASTLETON — The Vermont Symphony Orchestra began its annual fall tour, “Made in Vermont” on Sept. 19, continuing through Sept. 29, presenting in eight towns and villages across Vermont. This tour marks the beginning of the 80th anniversary season of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra. The program includes a concerto by Dittersdorf for an under sung pair of solo instruments—viola and double bass—and Holst’s popular “St. Paul’s Suite.” Beth Wiemann, a Burlington native, will join them to introduce the world premiere she has written for the VSO, “Before the Snow.” The concert concludes with Haydn’s Symphony No. 85, nicknamed “La Reine” because its grace and power found favor with Queen Marie Antoinette.
The tour makes its way to central Vermont with concerts at Chandler Music Hall in Randolph on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m.; and Castleton College in Castleton on Monday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.
Alan Jordan, Executive Director of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, said, “for many years the Vermont Symphony Orchestra has traveled to smaller communities across the state during foliage season, sharing the joy and enrichment of live classical music with Vermonters in their rural town meeting spaces. Nothing else that we do embodies the VSO’s mission of statewide service more than our ‘Made in Vermont Music Festival’ tour, and Anthony Princiotti and the Orchestra look forward to our performances in Johnson, Vergennes, Derby Line, Lyndonville, Bellows Falls, Randolph, St. Albans, and Castleton.”
