Police investigate skier deaths at Killington Resort

Police are investigating the deaths of two skiers who collapsed at Killington Resort over three days.
William Cusano, age 65 of Lagrangeville, N.Y., was skiing at Killington on Saturday afternoon when he collapsed on an intermediate ski trail, police said. He was transported the Rutland Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. There was no indication that Cusano had been involved in a crash while skiing and police said his death appears to have been natural. Cusano was noted to be an experienced skier.
Cusano will be examined at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Burlington, Vermont, to determine the cause and manner of death.
On Monday afternoon, a second skier collapsed at Killington Resort. Walter Gorgas of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., was observed collapsing on the intermediate trail Header at the Ramshead peak area at approximately 2:30. There was no indication that Gorgas had collided with any other skiers or objects and it appears to be a natural event.  It was reported Gorgas, age 80, was a very experienced skier and instructor at the Killington Ski Resort.
