Kicks off 2017-17 winter season with community “food raiser”
KILLINGTON—On Saturday, Dec. 10, Pico Mountain will open for the 2016-17 winter season with its fourth annual opening day Food Raiser, a special promotion providing discounted lift tickets in exchange for donations of food for low-income Vermonters. To ensure donations make it to community members in need, Pico Mountain partners with local nonprofit organization BROC Community Action, which provides over 40,000 meals to Vermonters in need every year.
Discounted single-day lift tickets will be available all weekend at the Pico ticketing sales center for just $29 for all ages with a donation of three non-perishable food items (regularly $76).
“We at Pico Mountain are proud to continue our opening day tradition of rallying our ski and snowboard family with a food raiser to collect donations and grow awareness of food insecurity in southern Vermont ahead of the winter holidays,” said Rich McCoy, director of operations at Pico Mountain. “BROC Community Action works relentlessly to improve the quality of life for Vermonters in our community and we utilize incentives like discounted lift tickets to encourage food donations, because every single contribution helps feed a neighbor in need.”
With 56 trails serviced by seven lifts, including two high-speed detachable quads, Pico Mountian offers more vertical drop than 80 percent of New England ski areas.
Pico Mountain lift hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. during weekends and on peak days. For more information visit picomountain.com.
