Saturday, Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m.—BRANDON—Dave Keller is one of the finest blues and soul men of his generation. A first-class singer, guitarist, and songwriter, he has earned the respect of the torchbearers of blues and soul music. Legendary guitarist Ronnie Earl featured Keller’s singing and songwriting on his 2010 CD “Living In The Light,” which received a coveted BMA nomination for Blues Album of the Year. Mississippi soul blues master Johnny Rawls calls Keller his protégé, and frequently features Keller as part of his touring band. Mighty Sam McClain, one of the deepest of the classic soul singers, has mentored Keller for years, and says, “He’s the real deal. Y’all check him out!” Catch him and his band at Brandon Music on Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
Leading The Dave Keller Band since 1996, Keller is a warm and confident presence on stage, firing off gritty guitar licks while singing from his heart.
“I try to break down the barriers between audience and performer,” Keller explains, “so we can have fun together and inspire each other.”
It’s not uncommon to find Keller wandering through the crowd with his guitar, audience singing along with him, while his band keeps a killer groove percolating.
Keller’s newest CD, “Where I’m Coming From,” is a deep soul gem. Produced by Bob Perry (Wu-Tang Clan, Brian McKnight, Foxy Brown), with backing from Brooklyn’s soul hotshots The Revelations, the music sounds alive and full and super funky— like “Hi Records” around 1969, but with the clarity of modern recordings. Keller’s previous CD, “Play for Love,” reached No. 8 on Roots Music Report’s blues chart.
