Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.—POULTNEY—The great 19th-century American poet Emily Dickinson was known as “The Myth” in her lifetime, rarely venturing far from the confines of her Amherst, Mass., homestead. But Wednesday, Sept. 14, the so-called virgin recluse comes alive at Green Mountain College’s Ackley Theater in William Luce’s classic play “The Belle of Amherst.” The play is directed by Eric Peterson, artistic director of The Oldcastle Theatre in Bennington.
Prof. Paula Mann, director of the college’s theater program, plays Dickinson in this ambitious one-woman performance, which lasts 80 minutes without an intermission.
The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are free for GMC students, staff and faculty and $10 for the general public. Tickets are available on the day of performance at Ackley Auditorium.
This is a reprise of Mann’s performance last spring at The Oldcastle Theatre. She is also performing the play Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Dorset Playhouse at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the box office in Dorset at 802-867-5570 or online at dorsetplayers.org.
Green Mountain College is located at One Brennan Circle, Poultney.
