Proctor woman dies after crashing into garage

RUTLAND TOWN—On Sept. 3, at approximately 11:03 p.m. member of the Vermont State Police-Rutland Barracks, Rutland County Sheriff’s Department, Rutland Town Fire Department and Regional Ambulance Service responded to a single vehicle crash on West Proctor Road in Rutland Town.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Kathy L. Johnson, age 52 of Proctor, Vt., as driving her 1998 Honda Accord south on West Proctor Road in Rutland Town when it began to leave the right side of the travel lane. The operator attempted to correct and steer to the left, losing control of the vehicle. The vehicle traveled left of center and off the east side of the roadway. It continued over a lawn and struck a two-car garage at 3213 West Proctor Road. The vehicle caused massive damage to the garage and two vehicles parked inside which were unoccupied at the time. No one at the residence was injured.
Johnson was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was reportedly not wearing her seatbelt. The Vermont State Police are continuing to investigate this crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Patrick Slaney, at 802-773-9101.
