Teen falls over Hamilton Falls

At 12 p.m. on Aug. 25, Vermont State Police received a request for assistance from fire/rescue personnel who were responding to the area of Hamilton Falls on Hamilton Falls Road in Jamaica, Vt., for a 17-year-old male who had gone over the upper falls to the middle pool (there are three pools in the falls). It was reported initially that bystanders at the scene had begun to perform CPR at that time. The subject regained a pulse and respirations as a result, prior to being removed from the wooded area surrounding the falls. He was then airlifted by helicopter to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
The victim was later identified as Tyler Rosenberg, age 17, from Irvington, N.Y.
Witnesses reported the victim was attempting to cross the uppermost pool of the falls where it spills over, when he turned back to find a better location to cross and slipped, causing him to fall into a chute that extends to the second pool of water below. The victim slid approximately 100 feet to the second or middle pool and sustained head injuries in the process.
Bystanders at the middle pool immediately began lifesaving efforts on the victim at this point.
State police were informed by DHMC that the victim died at 5:13 p.m. as a result of trauma sustained in this fall.
Assisting agencies that responded include Jamaica Fire/Rescue; Townshend Fire/Rescue, Wardsboro Fire/Rescue.
