PITTSFORD—Chittenden Road will be closed to through traffic from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2 and possibly over the Labor Day weekend, according to Town Manager John Haverstock, although he hopes that will not be the case. The work is being done near the Newton Farm on Chittenden Road, north of the intersection of East Pittsford Road and Meadow Lake Drive. The most direct alternate route for those heading to destinations in the Town of Chittenden is Sangamon Road off Route 7 in Pittsford. Sangamon Road arrives at Chittenden Road north of the site.
An older corrugated steel culvert is being replaced with a larger box culvert to handle an unnamed stream that swells in heavy rains, washes out the roadway and contributes to erosion, he said. The precast concrete box culvert will be sizeable: 6x12x34 feet.
The work is being funded to 90 percent through the Agency of Transportation’s Structures Grant, with the town picking up the rest of the tab.
