CALAIS—Friday morning, Aug. 12, at approximately 9:10 a.m., Vermont State Police SCUBA Team along with Colchester Technical Rescue recovered the body of Seamus Beall, age 17, of East Calais, in Curtis Pond following a swimming incident Thursday evening. Beall was located in the vicinity where he was last seen. Witnesses report Beall was a good swimmer.
At 7:12 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, troopers at the Vermont State Police barracks in Middlesex had been notified of a missing swimmer at Curtis Pond in Calais. Swimmers in the area called 911 to report that a friend had not reappeared after entering the water. Troopers responded to the area to assist with the search, along with the Woodbury Fire Department and East Montpelier Fire & Ambulance, and many friends and family gathered on the banks. As the evening light waned ,the search was postponed until daylight.
After finding the body early Friday morning, it was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy, to determine the cause and manner of death. No other information is available at this time.
