Obituary: Anne Marie McGrath, age 74

Anne Marie McGrath, Jan. 14, 1942 – July 27, 2016

Anne Marie Howe McGrath, a resident of Killington, Vt., died Wednesday at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. McGrath was 74 years old. She was born on Jan. 14, 1942, the daughter of Anne and Thomas Howe, in Philadelphia, Pa. She spent her early years in Springfield, N.J., and graduated from Jonathan Dayton High School Class of 1960. In 1962, she married John Michael McGrath and moved to Berkeley Heights, N.J. After marriage, she worked a variety of jobs to help support her family. She worked as a teacher’s aide and school crossing guard. She also worked as an executive secretary for the township of Berkeley Heights and later for the township of New Providence, N.J. McGrath was an active member of the Berkeley Heights Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

In 1990, Anne and her husband John McGrath retired and moved to Killington, Vt. She loved to ski with John and her friends at the Six Mountains of Killington during the winter months. During the summer she played tennis and rode her motorcycle around Vermont’s country roads. She loved to read and visited the Killington Sherburne Library throughout the year.

She is survived by her loving husband John; her three sons, John Thomas McGrath of Berkeley Heights, N.J., Michael Joseph McGrath of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and Kevin Sean McGrath of South Charleston, W.V.; and five grandchildren. Anne will also be sorely missed by Opie, her Jack Russell terrier.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, July 30, at Clifford Funeral Home with burial following at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Killington Sherburne Library or Killington Fire and Rescue.
