Dead tree near Lake Bomoseen falls on Rutland man, killing him

BOMOSEEN — On July 23 at 4:45 p.m., Clifford R. Jones, age 66 of Rutland, went out to retrieved two fishing poles from a dock on Lake Bomoseen when he was pinned by a large dead tree that fell due to the sever wind storm at the time. The tree broke at its base, falling on the victim and pinning him. Family and friends removed the tree and started life saving measures, without success. Police declared it an “accidental death,” but said the case is pending the results of an autopsy.

Jones had been renting a camp off the north end of Lake Bomoseen, located on Sevigny Road in Hubbardton, according to the report.
