RUTLAND – The Paramount Theatre and Castleton University announced July 11 that the second half of Project 240 is set to begin.
As part of the remaining 10 events, the Paramount will welcome several prominent political experts and analysts to its stage, none of whom are more well-known than the powerhouse duo of James Carville and Mary Matalin.
“An Evening with James Carville and Mary Matalin” is scheduled for Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. The keynote speaker event will feature Carville, America’s best-known political consultant, and wife Matalin, one of the country’s most celebrated and popular and sought-after conservative voices, live on the Paramount Theatre stage discussing the 2016 election cycle. Tickets for Carville/Matalin will go on sale on July 22 following the announcement of the Paramount Theatre’s 2016-2017 Season at 6 p.m. at the Paramount.
Project 240 is a collaborative effort between the Paramount Theatre and Castleton University designed to elevate public discourse around the 2016 general election, while bringing the community together for a series of impactful events in celebration of the 240th year of our republic. The series of 19 events at the Paramount Theatre spans 14 months and exists at the intersection of civic engagement, education, and entertainment.
Republican National Convention, July 21
The next event in the 19-part series will be the final night of the Republican National Convention on July 21. Recognized as one of the nation’s leading experts on technology and politics, Garrett Graff will host the event at the Paramount. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with Graff taking the stage at 7 p.m., leading into the live broadcast from Cleveland.
Democratic National Convention, July 28
The series rolls on with a live broadcast from the final night of Democratic National Convention on July 28, hosted by National Security correspondent and senior writer for The New York Times, David Sanger. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with Sanger taking the stage at 7 p.m. leading into the live broadcast from Philadelphia.
Fall debates, events
Project 240 will also host live broadcasts of all three presidential debates (Sept. 26, Oct. 9, and Oct. 19), as well as the vice presidential debate on Oct. 4. Nationally prominent hosts/speakers will be announced for all four broadcasts closer to the beginning of the debate cycle.
Castleton and the Paramount will also partner with Vtdigger.com to present a live Vermont State gubernatorial debate on Sept. 28, before welcoming the Reduced Shakespeare Company for their presentation of “A Complete History of America” (abridged), and wrapping up the 19-event excursion on Nov. 8 with an election night gala.
