Summer children’s program sponsored again at Maclure

PITTSFORD—The Maclure Library in Pittsford announced June 13 that a gift of $1,000 from the H. Hirschmann, Ltd., company of West Rutland, manufacturer of custom wood windows and doors, will make the summer children’s programs possible this year. This is the third year the company has funded the summer program.

“Summer is an important time for us to keep the reading momentum up for the children of our community,” said Bonnie Stewart, library director. “And they really enjoy the challenge of setting a reading goal for the summer and then achieving that goal. Studies show that children who continue reading throughout the summer maintain their reading level and arrive back at school ready to continue their progress.”

The summer reading program at Maclure has been serving the children of the Pittsford community for over 30 years. Kids borrow books from the library, establish summer reading goals, and celebrate their successes along the way. In addition to the reading part of the program, Maclure has added a whole string of programs again this summer, including craft days, build-your-own-robot projects, outdoor days, fishing adventures, and special presentations.
