On Feb. 18 Hartland resident Rebecca Maxham assumed her role as one of two community nurses in the very busy Aging in Hartland (AiH) program, replacing Katie Williams, her popular predecessor. Maxham will join Nancy North, who has been serving Hartland seniors with Williams for some years.
The community nurses provide at-home wellness-checks, help patients manage their prescribed medications and act as liaisons with families who are far from their senior loved ones. One third of Hartland residents are 65 or older, so demand for nurses’ attention is significant.
Maxham lives on Rice Road with her husband, Ethan Conley, and their 9-year-old son, Olin. Ethan is employed by National Grid in Lebanon, New Hamphire. In addition to her new position, Maxham works night shifts at Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor.
“It’s like putting a jigsaw puzzle together to make it work,” she said.
After educating in Woodstock area schools, she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Vermont State University and her licensed nursing assistant designation through Mt. Ascutney.
Maxham told the Mountain Times she has always liked nursing, but she is “passionate about the Hartland Community Nurse program.”
