Mountain Views Supervisory Union (MVSU) passed its $29,756,674 budget, an 11% increase over last year’s spending; which translated into a 6% in the equalized tax rate. Tallies trickled in throughout the night. As of 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, six of the seven district towns had reported results —only Woodstock, which was expected to pass the budget by a wide margin had not reported. Early Wednesday morning Woodstock results were posted — and the budget was confirmed.
Killington and Bridgewater voted against the budget, while Barnard, Plymouth, Pomfret, Reading and Woodstock all supported it — 39% more voters in the district voted “yes” than “no.”
MVSU also has a $99 million bond for a new middle school/high school on the ballot. Results were first announced Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. per 16 V.S.A. §743, which states “[Bond] ballots shall be commingled before counting.”
The bond measure failed: 1,910-no to 1,570-yes votes — 45% of the total voters approved of the bond; 55% did not.
