Thursday, Nov. 24 — WOODSTOCK — The Zack’s Place Turkey Trot, a 5K run and walk held on Thanksgiving Day, was first established in 2007, and has become a dependable annual fundraiser. Zack’s Place Turkey Trot’s first run saw almost 200 people join; in 2021, there were over 1,500 and $94,000 was raised. Zack’s Place in Woodstock is an enrichment center for special needs folks of all ages. All of the proceeds are dedicated to Zack’s Place operational costs.
On Thanksgiving Day Zack’s Place is hoping to see you walking or running in the annual Zack’s Place 5K Turkey Trot, which has a virtual option. This year the in-person event is starting at the elementary school as it did in years past. The weather will determine if the registration is indoors or outdoors.
Families traditionally run together as college students and relatives gather for the Thanksgiving celebration. Grandparents and young children in carriages participate as walkers and dogs join in. However we also have “satellite participants” who cannot be in Woodstock but who run wherever they are: Hawaii, Italy, New York City, etc. This is indeed a day of thanks where individuals help support Zack’s Place enrichment center and give thanks for their own gifts at the same time.
The event is on Thursday, Nov. 24 at 10a.m. Registration costs $35 for all pre-registered participants, before 12 p.m. on Nov. 23. To register online go to zacksplacevt.org/events/turkey-trot/.
The race begins in front of the Woodstock Elementary School at 10 a.m., meanders through the historic Village of Woodstock, then on towards Billings Farm, around Mountain Avenue, around The Green, back to the start line.
Please note that you can pick up race packets on Wednesday Nov. 23 between 3-5 p.m. at Woodstock Elementary School, 15 South St.
Registration on race day is at the school. The late registration price is $40.
Be sure to register between 8 and 9 a.m. on race day, so the race can begin on time.
There will be live music by the “John Snyder’s Band”.
