Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14-15 at 7 p.m. — WOODSTOCK — The YOH Theatre Players of Woodstock Union High School and Middle School (100 Amsden Way, Woodstock) will present “Radium Girls” by D.W. Gregory at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14 and Saturday, Oct. 15. Marcia Bender is the director of The YOH Theatre Players.
Inspired by a true story, Radium Girls traces the efforts of Grace Fryer, a flourescant dial painter, as she fights for her day in court. Called “powerful” and “engrossing” by critics, Daily Variety wrote, “Radium Girls is a highly theatrical ensemble piece which offers an unflinching look at the peculiarly American obsessions with health, wealth, and the commercialization of science.”
D.W. Gregory said: “The story: 1926. Radium is a miracle cure, Madame Curie an international celebrity, and luminous watches the latest rage. Until the girls who paint those watch dials begin to die. Based on the true story of the women and men who worked for the U.S. Radium Corporation in Orange, N.J., and originally written for nine actors to double into 38 roles.”Radium Girls is a fast-paced stage play.
