Megan Price is a Vermont Lakes Region native whose heritage is 100 % Welsh. True to Price’s heritage, her original plan was to sing, but she decided writing was more likely to pay the bills. Price worked as a news reporter, was later elected to serve three terms in the Vermont Legislature and later worked for health care reform to benefit elderly Vermonters that resulted in a Dept. of Justice investigation.
For the past decade Price has focused on writing the stories of retired game warden’s. The result is “Vermont Wild, Adventures of Fish & Game Wardens” which has proven a hit with ages 9 to 99 in Vermont and nationwide. The warden’s stories are told in the first person and immortalize their true encounters with hungry bear, angry moose, raucous raccoons and endless clever poachers. The stories are read aloud in schools from Maine to Texas, taken to hunting camp and shared in nursing homes. To date, Price has put more than 100 of the men’s stories into print, with the photos of the men and a brief bio in each book.
Because of Price’s Welsh heritage in the Vermont / New York Slate Valley communities of Poultney, Fair Haven and Castleton, Megan Price is a member of Poultney Area St. David’s Society. She enjoys discovering new information about her Welsh ancestors who emigrated to this region in the mid-to-late 1800s from villages in north west Wales.
Price’s visit to Wales magnified her interests in the heritage and culture. Her Price ancestry is firmly rooted in Bethesda and Llanllechid, as well as Welsh surnames of Owens, Roberts, Hughs, Jones, Ellis and Williams in Llanllyfni, Llanddeiniolen and several other parishes.
The welcome home to Wales is always in her heart, as it also is in her welcome home to the Slate Valley communities.
