Friday, Aug. 5 — FAIR HAVEN — This Friday is Family Movie Night Prior to the start of the show, we will have a bike parade around the park and pony rides will be available. Free Stewart’s ice cream has been donated, so we will have free ice cream, too.
A second movie night will be held on Aug. 12. “The Princess Bride” will be showing. Before the movie begins, we will have RAVE cars parked around the park for folks to see. There will be face painting for kids, too. Popcorn will be provided by the Fair Haven Concerts in the Park committee. Our finale is the Wine, Spirits, Beer, Cheese an Chocolate Tasting, Aug. 19. Vendors will be giving out free samples of their libations, as well as selling full pours and bottles. Live music by Nick Thornblade will make the event even more festive. Vendors will be checking IDs for anyone requesting samples or purchasing alcohol.

Each Friday night event kicks off at 6 p.m. There will be a food truck at each of the events. You can pick up a copy of the schedule at local businesses. The first two Fair Haven Friday Nights included the official unveiling of the mural at the Wood’s Agency and Touch-a-Truck. Both events saw a great turnout.
Members and friends of the Calvi family along with the Fair Haven Historical Society gathered on Friday, July 8, 2022, for the official unveiling of the mural outside the Woods Agency. In the crowd was also the artist, Kathryn Wiegers. The mural, commissioned by Ann Marie Mahar and David Calvi, was inspired by the history of the businesses in that corner block and generations of the Calvi family that worked there.
In his address Mr. Calvi, described the history of places like Calvi’s Soda Fountain owned by Mary and Tony Calvi from 1910 until 1968. Mary and Tony lived over the store and spent long days selling not only homemade ice cream, but fruit and vegetables, too. Many in the crowd recalled trips to the shop for their favorite frozen treats.
Also in the crowd was Carol Colville Crawley, a member of the historical society, and the niece of Ken Colville, who ran Colville’s News Stand from the 1920s until the 1960s. Also on the row of businesses in that corner was Herbert Smith’s jewelry store. He sold watches, rings, and jewelry, but was also well-known as a local photographer. The Society brought along an album containing prints from those glass plates.

R2D2 and C3PO were on hand along with many emergency response vehicles and even a race car on Friday, July 15. R2D2 attracted many passersby. The droid was accompanied by his friend C3PO (played by Joe Gunter, our town manager). This event entitled Touch-A-Truck saw many children visiting with fire fighters and first responders. In addition, we also had some farm equipment. In whatever vehicle visited, the children loved being able to sound the horns and sirens.
Another popular visitor was the K-9 team from VT Fish and Game. A huge thank you to all the organizations and individuals that shared their trucks, farm equipment, racing vehicle, and to the Red Cross for sharing emergency response information and the packets for pets.
