Fair Haven Union Middle and High School to host summer transition camps

Fair Haven Union Middle and High School (FHUMHS) is hosting a series of transition camps beginning in mid-July. Students in grades 7-9 will have the opportunity to participate in week-long camps. The camps are intended to help students in grades 7-8 with the transition from elementary school to the newly formed district middle school. For 9th-grade students, the camps will help ease the transition from middle school to high school.

“This important program has helped many incoming 9th graders make a successful transition to high school,” said Kate Leathe, assistant principal. “They build relationships with peers and connect with teachers and staff that they will work with at FHU. We are so excited to offer this program to our incoming 7th and 8th graders so that we can build a new unified middle school community.” As part of Slate Valley Unified Union School District’s recent reorganization, district middle and high school students will be attending the newly formed Fair Haven Union Middle and High School in August. Renovations are being made on the high school campus to accommodate the newly formed district middle school.

“We have worked hard throughout the past school year to keep our families informed about the reorganization at FHU,” said Principal Ben Worthing. “The excitement for the renovations and the overall transition has been contagious. We are anticipating a spectacular opening in August.” Students attending transition camp can look forward to team-building activities that foster strong relationships amongst their peers as well as staff members. They will produce art for the local community, complete community service projects, and participate with the Vermont Outdoor Adventure Program at Lake Bomoseen.

“We are excited to offer an engaging camp experience that will provide a positive transition for students into our new middle school,” said Worthing. “This camp truly offers an amazing opportunity for our students to bond and connect with their new school community in a positive manner.”
