Big wins and big losses at the Killington Softball League

The hottest team in the league, First Stop, stayed hot and undefeated with a 17-4 mercy win over Sushi Yoshi. Sushi started the game by going down 1-2-3 but First Stop’s first 4 batters scored to take a 4-0 lead.

They had a chance for a lot more but team captain and pitcher Johnny Sharpe stranded the bases loaded. Sushi got on the board with 1 in the second inning but also suffered a “Cold Beer K.”

The hottest home run hitter in the league is rookie Joe Brown who smacked a solo shot and Jake from State Farm scored to make it 6-1. Sushi had nothing going in their third inning but First Stop did, scoring another 4 runs with another home run from Brown, this time a 3 run blast. Sushi scored 1 in the fourth but FS exploded for seven runs to take a 17-2 lead. MVP Brown hit another three-run shot and Collin “Hungry Like The” Wolf showed his speed with an inside-the-park home run.

Sushi managed to score 2 in the fifth but that was all she wrote as they fell 17-4 to stay without a victory while FS remained undefeated.

The next game was close until the teams took the field. Rivershed Sluggers welcomed Ronzoni Hacker back to the mound but his time in the Florida Senior League did not pay off. Chasin’ Tail slugged them to oblivion and handed them their worst loss ever, 36-8. CT led off with a whopping 15 runs in the first inning while being one batter away from hitting through their order twice. Ronzoni stopped the onslaught with a “CBK” to Alex Cornelius. Rivershed got three runs back. The second inning was the only inning RS stopped CT from scoring but they stopped themselves from scoring too. CT put on another hit parade in the 3rd inning and all RS could do was watch it go by. They batted through their order 1.7 times while adding 13 more runs for a 28-3 lead.

Two of those were off a bomb by Brady Diaz. Tall Tom Gilligan hit a solo shot in the third but Jimbo Cassineri hit into an inning ending double-play.

The fourth inning was more of the same, CT hit through their order and the Bad News Bears, I mean RS, could not stop much. They were able to hold them to only six runs. Three of those were by Diaz with a very fast inside-the-park home run. The only significance for RS in the fourth was seeing Jared “No Politics” Hall suffer a “CBK.” CT team captain Dakota Booska smacked his 2nd home run of the game, a two-run shot to make it 36-4. Those were the only runs CT scored, a moral victory on defense for RS.

The bottom of the 5th and also the last inning was the best for RS. Dan Sesko got a lead-off walk, Ronzoni and DJ Dave Hoffenberg hit singles and then the recently un-retired Will “The Thrill” Burdick blasted a grand slam and then Tall Tom Gilligan followed that with a solo shot.

The game ended shortly after that and the Fat Lady was already singing after the 1st inning.
