In person event at new location with new participation options
Saturday, June 18 — KILLINGTON — After two-years of a virtual event due to the global pandemic, the 12th annual Vermont Adaptive Charity Challenge presented by Killington Resort returns as an in-person fundraising event on Saturday, June 18.
The event has drawn about 600 people to the Killington region in past years all in an effort to raise $300,000 for adaptive sports programs and athletes at Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports, a nationally recognized nonprofit that provides sports and recreational programs throughout Vermont to people with disabilities.
“We are excited to finally be back together as a community for our largest fundraising event of the year,” said Erin Fernandez, executive director of Vermont Adaptive. “We still have a virtual option for those who want to participate but can’t make it on June 18, but we think folks are ready to be together again, outside, enjoying recreation in the Green Mountains while supporting adaptive sports accessibility and programs. We changed up the road routes and mountain biking options a bit and added paddling, hiking, and a gravel grind. No matter what you choose as an adventure, you’ll be active in the morning then be able to relax at the festival in the afternoon. We can’t wait to see everyone again!”
What began as just a century ride in 2011 has evolved into 100-mile, 60-mile and 20-mile road routes for cyclists, plus mountain biking, paddling, hiking, and gravel grinder options.
More than 20 cyclists with disabilities plus their assistants and guides, plus an additional 500 registrants will come together at the Skyeship Base Lodge on Route 4 at Killington Resort for a day of friendship and fundraising. Cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts from around New England and East of the Mississippi are expected to participate in this year’s event.
The afternoon festival is open to the public beginning at noon featuring live music with Jamie’s Junk Show, food trucks, kids’ activities with Killington Parks and Rec and the Vermont State Parks, adaptive sports equipment demos, a vendor village, silent auction, photo booth and tasty beverages from Lawson’s Finest Liquids, 14th Star Brewing, Pepsico and more.
Registration is $50 and includes participation in the morning adventure of choice, aid stations on the cycling routes and entrance to the festival.
Those who raise the minimum $150 requirement will receive a special appreciation package and the first 500 people to reach that threshold receive a Killington lift ticket valid for the 2022-2023 winter season or 2022 summer season (some restrictions apply).
For those not participating in the morning, party-only tickets may be pre-purchased online or at the door for $10/person.
The event is held rain or shine.
