Killington Music Festival announces 40th season schedule

The Killington Music Festival is returning for its 40th season. On Saturday evenings from July 2- 23, acclaimed musicians of the Killington Music Festival will perform at Pico Mountain Lodge at the Killington Resort at 7 p.m. During the Music in the Mountains classical concert series, they will also teach, guide and mentor the young aspiring musicians from around the country and abroad.

On July 2, the Killington Music Festival’s season opens with “Together in KMF Again” featuring Simon Ghraichy at the piano.Ghraichy is an acclaimed French pianist and a festival favorite. He is renowned for his unique personal style defined with rich, diverse cultural influences. Ghraichy will transport the listener through a riveting performance of works by Spanish composers Granados and Albeniz and Schubert’s “Trio” closing the evening with Dvorak’s gorgeous first piano quintet.

Join us on July 9, with “Boston to KMF, one Foote at a time,” KMF musicians pay tribute to a Bostonian renowned and prolific composer who was part of the Boston Six, Arthur Foote, by presenting some of his most beloved chambers works including his “Piano Quartet” and “Piano Trio No. 2.”

On July 16, there will be KMF Discoveries by Candlelight. In this special performance works and performers new to KMF are introduced to the Green Mountains.  The evening begins with the vigorous Bowen quintet, a work that features the bass clarinet and strings, followed by Austrian Josef Labor’s “Piano Quintet” that gives tribute to the double bass, finally closing the evening by candlelight with mesmerizing duos featuring the romantic guitar and violin in works by Piazzolla, Villa-Lobos, and Paganini.

On July 23 a number of works, such as Saint-Saëns’ piano quartet and Borodin’s string trio, are coupled with transcriptions of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” and William Grant Still’s “Motherless Child” on KMF’s newest instrument addition to its growing lineup, the trumpet.

The Music in the Mountains Concert Series is sponsored by the Luc Walter Foundation and sponsors; Casella Resource Solutions; Heritage Family Credit Union; Betsy and Baxter Holland; Killington Resort; Rotary Club of Rutland; Rutland Regional Medical Center and Victoria and Robert Young.

The concerts are held at Pico Mountain Lodge at 7 p.m. Ticket prices are $30. Tickets may be purchased on the day of the performance beginning at 6 p.m. at Pico Mountain Lodge. Check or cash only. Performances of the Young Artists Series are held at Pico Mountain Lodge at 7 p.m. On July 1, 8, 15, 20, and 21, admission is free.
