June 3-12 — POMFRET — Artistree Community Players presents their spring musical “A…My Name is Alice” this June. It’s a hysterically funny song-filled girls’ night out you are not going to want to miss. This hilarious show will be co-directed by the fabulous Lanni Luce West along with our own artistic director Josh D. Smith. Conceived by Joan Micklin Silver and Julianne Boyd.
“A…My Name is Alice” is an award-winning breakthrough musical comedy revue starring five Upper Valley women performers and accompanied by a great jazz combo. An exuberant musical revue that is sophisticated, bawdy, funny and insightful. The show is comprised of a series of comedy sketches, monologues, dance numbers, songs and poems as the characters share their insightful contemporary views of the world.
Twenty-four of Broadway’s best comedy playwrights and composers contributed to the music and dialog, including Marta Kauffman and David Crane, the creators of the hit TV show “Friends,” as well as Amanda McBroom (The Rose), Winnie Holzman (Wicked), Lucy Simon (The Secret Garden) and Carol Hall “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.”
Some of the topics explored include lifelong friendships, sibling rivalries and an exchange between a 50-something widow and a teenager. We meet a single mother, a divorcee, small town girl with big city dreams, a sex-driven firecracker and a woman discovering who she is later in life. Each of the women has a different type of life that is told in a variety of ways through song.
This all-local cast includes Laine Gillespie of Enfield, NH, Laurie Marshall of Woodstock, Marisa Valent of Rutland, Killian White of Bethel, and Beata Randall of Hanover, NH. Yael Taylor of Woodstock serves as state manager for the production.
“A…My Name is Alice” runs weekends June 3-12 at the Grange Theatre in South Pomfret. Ticket sales are currently open.
