Only at Killington: celebrate Memorial Day with a sport trifecta: Ski, bike and golf

By Polly Mikula

Memorial Day weekend is known for many things (in addition to solemnly remembering those veterans that paid the ultimate price in service to our country). The three day weekend is the unofficial kick-off to summer so many will celebrate with barbecues, parades and parties. Others will spend the weekend in the garden, as the old sayings warn not to plant much before this weekend for killer frosts are not uncommon through May in Vermont.

But those at Killington, may have a different ambitious goal: the ultimate spring trifecta of skiing, biking and playing golf all in the same day (or long weekend). Killington Resort holds the unique distinction of being the only resort in the Northeast to be open Memorial Day Weekend for skiing and riding, mountain biking, and golf.

Skiing and riding is open Friday-Monday this week with Memorial Day, May 30, being the 190th day operating this season.

Killington’s Bike Park will open Saturday and operate through Monday on Snowshed Express Quad. Daily operations will begin June 10. For opening weekend, the resort anticipates having all Snowshed bike trails open, with the exception of Stinky Skills Park and Coaster Trail.

Ramshead Express Quad is scheduled to open June 10 onwards, followed by K-1 Express Gondola on June 23, trail conditions dependent. Killington Golf Course will be open for the season starting Friday, May 27 for golf course & Beast 365 Passholders only, and to the public on Saturday, May 28. The Golf Course will be open daily through Oct. 10.

Veterans will be invited to participate in the sport of their choice for free on Monday, May 30, by visiting a ticket window with proper I.D.

To show appreciation for Beast 365 passholders, the resort is giving away a commemorative t-shirt to anyone who skis/snowboards, bikes, and golfs on any day over Memorial Day weekend. After completing this Killington “triathlon,” bring your Beast 365 pass with you to Vermont Fresh inside of the Snowshed Base Lodge on May 28-30 from 3-5 p.m. to pick up your exclusive new shirt. To qualify skiing/snowboarding, mountain biking, and golfing all must take place at Killington Resort, but do not all have to be done on the same day, and participants must be Beast 365 passholders.
