Sunday, May 1 — CASTLETON — United Way of Rutland County (UWRC), in Partnership with Castleton University, invites Rutland County community members to sign up for their first annual United Way May Day 5k event on Sunday, May 1 at Castleton University. Participants can register online.
Proceeds from the event will benefit all of Rutland County through United Way’s Community Impact Grants and Targeted Impact Programs. In 2021 UWRC awarded grants to 16 different nonprofits for 18 different programs throughout the county. Campaign fundraising dollars also support UWRC’s Targeted Impact priorities through Happy Feet, a shoes replacement program, serving over 192 children in 2021 and Welcome to Winter, a free hat and mitten program, both of which partner with all schools throughout Rutland County.
Check-in and registration begins at 9 a.m. on May 1, at the Castleton University Pavilion. Beginning at 10 a.m., the race will leave from the Pavilion and tour the trails of Castleton University’s campus and the town of Castleton, Vermont. UWRC is grateful for the support of Castleton University in creating this event, and thrilled to add another dimension of partnership between these organizations.
“With this being the first ever 5k fundraising collaboration between the United Way and Castleton University, I am excited to be a part of the event. I can’t wait to see the turnout on race day to benefit an organization that cares so much for Rutland and the surrounding communities,” said Meg Wasko, Castleton University Graduate Student and event coordinator. “Please consider registering for the race on May 1 or making a donation to the United Way of Rutland County!”
The event will also offer participants the opportunity to learn about and visit with area nonprofits, as well as United Way Community Impact Grant’s partner agencies. Participants will receive tickets for a raffle to win various prizes from area businesses, including light fixtures from Hubbardton Forge and gift certificates from The Bakery in Rutland.
UWRC is actively seeking local businesses to sponsor the event, as well as nonprofits who would like to set up informational booths. If you are interested, please contact Ashley at 802-773-7477 or info@uwrutlandcounty.org.
