RANDOLPH — The Summer Youth Musical at Chandler, a nearly quarter-century tradition, continues this year with “Legally Blonde, the Musical,” a fun, upbeat story of self-discovery with Harvard’s beloved Elle Woods taking the stage by pink storm. Auditions begin in March with performances scheduled for June 30 and July 1- 3.
The Chandler production features teen and elementary-age choruses. Young actors from throughout the region are invited to audition next month by submitting an audition tape and completing an online form at chandler-arts.org by midnight Mar. 12. For their initial audition, actors are required to perform a monologue and a dance number, and to sing. Callbacks, to be held in person at Chandler, begin Mar. 26 by appointment.
Randolph native Joshua Huffman, who studies dance, theater and German at University of Vermont, will direct the musical.
Jennifer Stickney will serve as the musical director.
“After over 10 years of retirement from all things theater,” Stickney said, “I am very pleased to be joining the Chandler team for this production.” She holds a bachelor’s degree in music from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and a master’s degree in vocal performance from University of Delaware.
“Legally Blonde, the Musical,” is based on the novel by Amanda Brown, which was later adapted into a 2001 film starring Reese Witherspoon. The musical opened on Broadway in 2007. “Legally Blonde” music and lyrics are by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin with book by Heather Hach.
