Mikaela Shiffrin, who attended Burke Mountain Academy in Vermont, has won the Slalom race at Killington every year since the World Cup began here in 2016. Can she do it again for the fifth time?

“I could hear the crowd the whole second run, from the start to the finish,” Shriffin said of racing Slalom at Killington. “The crowd really carried me down the hill, and it’s just amazing to race here in front of everybody. The atmosphere is incredible.”

But the competition is always steep, with less than a quarter second often separating places on the podium. Still, Shiffrin is the clear favorite, as she has continued to climb in her dominance, not only in the Slalom but also in Giant Slalom, Super G, and Alpine Combined.

While Shiffrin has dominated the Killington Slalom she has also made the Giant Slalom podium twice: in 2019 she placed third and in 2017 she took second.

At the first official World Cup race of the 2022 Alpine season — a Giant Slalom in Soelden, Austria, Oct. 23 — Shiffrin won. So she’s off to a good start!

Past podiums at the Killington Cup

After a year hiatus from the Killington Cup races (canceled by the pandemic last year), the world’s fastest women’s Alpine races return. Will Mikaela Shiffrin be able to defend her Slalom title for the fifth year? Will she win the Giant Slalom, too?
