Chu Suk “Suki” Lee, 82

Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, Chu Suk Lee (O’Donnell), fondly called Suki, died. She was born Feb. 1, 1939.

Suki’s life was about the journey, not the destination, as she cha-cha-cha’ed through countless unique life experiences.

A colorful tree in Killington enjoyed by Suki in her final days.

Born in Japanese-occupied Korea, she developed a deep sense of resilience, independence, and strength that served her throughout her life. Her personality broke through any language barrier, allowing her to make numerous connections across four continents. Whether in Korea, Italy, Australia, or the U.S., her presence filled any room she occupied. She brought unapologetic confidence, quick wit and style to every interaction that demanded the love of everyone she met.

Suki gave a bit of herself to all those who loved her. Her two daughters, Giuliana and Anna Maria, learned from their mother how to be adaptable, courageous and steadfast. Her son-in-law Michael learned from her wisdom and will miss her presence/guidance. She ensured her grandchildren valued what she loved — from Korean food to a good time and respect. She lived in Killington in the early 2000s and could be found watching swim meets and other events in which her grandchildren were performing. She settled into The Maples around 2008 and was grateful to the staff there. She was a true social butterfly, curating deep friendships by sharing her energy, cooking, and sense of fun. She had difficulties and hardships in her life, including many others parting before her, but she understood getting up and enduring.

Her final days brought her to Killington, where she passed during undoubtedly one of the best fall foliage seasons, surrounded by beautiful scenery that mirrored her colorful essence. As she prepared to leave this world, she brought together family and friends from all walks of life. She passed peacefully, surrounded by the love everyone felt for her.

Suki is survived by daughters Giuliana (Matteucci) Hodulik and husband Michael of Killington; Anna Maria Matteucci and granddaughter Jessica Matteucci of Queensland, Australia;  sisters Younja of Queens, New York; Junam Lee of Fort Lee, New Jersey; and Inja Yoo, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; brother Ju Heun of Korea; grandchildren, Erica (Hodulik) Caetano, husband Fabio and great-granddaughter, Stella, of Rutland, Vermont; Alessandra Hodulik of Washington, DC; and George Hodulik and partner Thomas Franco of Rutland.

As Suki wished, there will be no funeral service. In honor of Suki’s memory, donations should be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
