Sunday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m.—HUBBARDTON—On Sunday, Sept. 26, the Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site in Hubbardton and the Hubbardton Historical Society offer an afternoon of stories about the early civilians who lived in Hubbardton and the soldiers who fought here in 1777. Site interpreter Robert Franzoni and Hubbardton Historical Society president Grace Calvin lead the program, “Soldiers, Citizens, and Ghosts in the Time of the Battle of Hubbardton.” The program is from 2 to 4 pm and is included in regular site admission. This is one of many Vermont Archaeology Month events in September.
Meet at the battlefield museum for orientation and then head down to the East Hubbardton Cemetery in your own vehicle to learn about the early settlers, their contributions to the town of Hubbardton, and if anyone buried in the cemetery fought in the July 7, 1777, battle.
The Hubbardton Battlefield is the site of the only Revolutionary War battle fought in what would become Vermont. The historic site is located at 5696 Monument Hill Road 6 miles off Vermont Route 30 in Hubbardton.
The site is open Fridays through Sundays from 10 to 5 through Oct. 10. Regular admission is $3 for adults and free for children under 15.
