Things felt better-than-normal for Chaffee Art Center’s summer Art in the Park, held Aug. 14-15 at Main Street Park in Rutland. On Sunday morning, perfect temps and blue skies created a comfortable environment as customers buzzed around to live music performed by Dirty Read Hearts. Additional local music acts played all weekend long. The Yellow Deli offered up samples of its elixirs and attendees could also sample maple kettle corn and shaved ice before buying, or dine on fried chicken from the Rollin’ Rooster. And as the show name implies, arts and crafts including photography, paintings, tapestry, jewelry, wood, metal works and more were available to take home.
For the kids, Wonderfeet Museum had a play area set up, and an opportunity for the children to add their hand print to a BenchART bench, which will be permanently placed at Community Health Pediatrics in Rutland.
Colleen Wilcox of Wander on Words, whose hand-lettered prints, shirts and other pieces were selling well, smiled broadly as her booth was full of customers. “It feels so great to be back,” she said. “We needed this!’
