FAIR HAVEN — To help our neighbors meet some of the financial challenges due to the pandemic, Fair Haven Concerned’s food shelf has increased its hours. That has meant the increased need for volunteer help to staff both the food shelf and the thrift shop.
The food shelf shifts are three hours long and are from 9 a.m. to noon or noon to 3 p.m. We need people who have strong customer service skills. The job consists of helping people pick out their food, bag it and sometimes take it to their vehicle. We also take in food from area grocers and farm stands. These items need to be carried in, weighed and put on the shelves.
We do a lot of cleaning to comply with the regulations set by the Vermont Food Bank. The job is physical so we need someone who is able to lift and be on their feet. However, if you are really interested and can only sit and greet people we welcome your help also.
We are looking for volunteers for a dedicated shift each week and also people that would be willing to fill in on an as needed basis.
Thrift store volunteers assist customers with their clothing purchases. We have a very simple money bag and most items in the store cost only one or two dollars. Volunteers also fold clothing and help with displays. Thrift store volunteers also help clients with the food shelf, if needed.
If interested in joining our team of volunteers, please contact the executive director, Tracy Yendell at 802-265-3666.
Fair Haven Concerned is looking at the rising costs of fuel and heating and would encourage community members and friends to consider joining the fall festival. This event will be taking the place of our annual gala. The date is Sunday, Sept. 26 from 4-7 p.m. This event will be held at the Kingston Place Barn located in Benson. They will be opening the dance floor and we are so excited to have the Aaron Audet Band available to perform for the event. Like our previous galas, we will have a silent auction, cash bar, and the 50/50 raffle. The menu includes local fall favorites, chicken and biscuits and apple crisp from Wheel Inn. The cost per person is $30. Tickets may be purchased at Fair Haven Concerned, Wheel Inn, People’s United Bank, and from Fair Haven Concerned board members. We are also looking for business and individual sponsors for this fall festival. For more information on Fair Haven Concerned, please call the office at 802-265-3666.
