There are a many wonderful events planned this summer for readers of all ages at the Fair Haven Free Library.
Mary Kay Miller, the children’s librarian, has scheduled summer story times every Tuesday morning in July. The story time begins at 10 a.m. The theme for this summer’s reading is Tales and Tails. In keeping with the theme, the library will host Jerry the Insect Guy on July 20 at 10 a.m. More information on Jerry’s visit will be coming or you can call the library for more details at 802-265-8011.
July will also see the return of Think Outside the Boxes. These boxes were a huge hit last summer and include activities for the whole family. Also available are story time take-out kits. These kits come with books and a list of activities, and each has a theme. These kits have been extremely popular over the past several months.
Students in grades 3-12 can take advantage of the summer reading challenge which goes through the summer and ends Sept. 1. The University of Vermont’s Watershed Explore Challenge for students is also available for students in grades 6-12.
The adult book club had its first in person meeting in June. It was great to see everyone after a year of meeting virtually. The book club meets on the second Monday of each month and reads a variety of genres. For more information about the book club stop in at the library.
Families can once again take advantage of several passes available for local attractions. These passes are very popular, and you may want to reserve them ahead of time.
The summer story walk will be back in the park soon. Look for more information about the story walk as we get closer to the installation. The Library and Friends of the Library began this story walk several years ago under the leadership of Nate Morris.
The library is nearing the end of its digitization process. This has been a long journey and progress was slowed due to the pandemic. If you would like to access books online, that is also available through the library. Just ask one of the librarians for information on how you can access books on Overdrive or Hoopla.
The library did recently change its hours on Monday and Wednesday nights. The library is now open from 3-7 p.m. on those two evenings. The library is also open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
As always, if you want to learn more about the library and the programs we offer you can visit us on our website at fairhavenfree.org, find us on Facebook, or e-mail us at fairhavenfreelibrary@gmail.com and if you haven’t been to the library lately, please stop in and say hello.
