Author presents popular pollinator program at the Fair Haven Free Library

Tuesday, July 20 at 10:30 a.m. —FAIR HAVEN — Fair Haven Free Library will host Jerry Schneider, who will be presenting his popular pollinator program. This program is for children of all ages, and will be held at the library on Tuesday, July 20 at 10:30 a.m.

Inventor of the award- winning Butterfly Game, Schneider, has presented nature programs in schools and libraries for the past 13 years throughout the eastern U.S. His programs help inspire youth and adults alike to pay more attention to our friends the butterflies, bees, bats, and other pollinators. Audiences learn how to create and maintain pollinator habitat. In recent years, a number of communities have built butterfly gardens on the monarch butterfly’s migration path. In Vermont, legislators are working on a bill to protect bees.

The program concludes with a wonderful t-shirt dyeing craft — children may purchase heavy cotton t-shirts from Schneider for $4 or bring their own.

Mr. Schneider, a former teacher and children’s librarian, invented The Butterfly Game in 2001. It received a Parents Publication award in 2004. Jerry was a steering committee member of the Vermont Butterfly Atlas Project, a 5-year study of butterfly populations in Vermont. He lives in Hardwick, Vermont.

Fair Haven Free Library wishes to thank the Vermont Dept. of Libraries for its generous support of this program.
