‘See It, Click It, Commit to It’ campaign aims to make driving safer

The serious injury and fatal crash rate for 2021 already exceeds that of several years in the recent past, according to Vermont State Police (VSP).

On June 1 Vermont and New Hampshire law enforcement agencies gathered at the the Hartford Welcome Center along with many in the trucking community to once again get the message out to all motorists and passengers to “Buckle Up” before and during your summer travels. It’s the eighth roll-out of the event known as “See It, Click It, Commit to It.”

As we begin the so-called “100 Days of Summer,” VSP does “not want anyone’s summer to end in tragedy.”

So on Tuesday, June 1, Vermont and New Hampshire law enforcement agencies gathered at the Hartford Welcome Center on Interstate 91 along with many in the trucking community to once again get the message out to all motorists and passengers to “Buckle Up” before and during your summer travels.

“This is our eighth roll-out of the event known as ‘See It, Click It, Commit to It’ [campaign]. The Vermont Truck and Bus Association, along with the Bellavance Trucking Company of Barre Vermont, were the first to make the commitment to bring this message to motorists, not only in Vermont but nationwide, by attaching Click It or Ticket signs on the rear of all their vehicles. We have done press events in seven locations throughout Vermont hoping to spread this message. It is our hope that you will not be able to travel the highways without seeing this sign on the back of every ‘big rig’ and delivery vehicle as a reminder to use your safety belts,” VSP stated in a news release last week.

“Click it or Ticket” signs help remind drivers on the road of the life-saving choice.

The campaign is also now partnering with the state of New Hampshire, though New Hampshire does not have an adult seat belt law. However, it is the law for commercial vehicle drivers in every state and they are committed to making our highways safer.

Many trucking companies in both states, along with the Vermont Agency of Transportation maintenance fleet, are joining Vermont and New Hampshire law enforcement agencies, the Vermont State Highway Safety Office, and Federal partners, to get the message out to “Buckle Up. Every Trip, Every Time.”

“Fastening your safety belt is the single-most effective thing you can do to ensure your survival in the event of a crash, so please support our efforts and when you see this message on the highway… See It, Click It, and Commit to It!” VSP stated.
