James Derosia said, “Yes, it was April Fools Day which would have worried me if I was working with someone else, but it was my mom,” he laughed.

His mother, Karen Lemay, sold the business after running it for 33 years.

James Derosia shared, “I have vague memories of running around as a kid and hiding in the racks while my mom would work at the store. I never thought I would be in this business.”

Camille’s is the largest consignment and costume store in Vermont, according to the store’s website.

His wife, Jadziah Derosia, works the social media aspect of the store.

You can find her on the store’s Instagram account, modeling the latest clothing items into the store.

Right now, it’s all about summer fashions. She said, “We got dresses, long lengths and short ones, tees, and tanks all the spring and summer styles we are just pulling out. Our racks are full. Come on in and shop, and I bet we’ve got something for everyone.”

Long-time Rutland shopper Amber Thomas said, “There is a lot of nice clothing, and it’s not a bad price. I find stuff immediately when I walk through the door.” She added that the dollar rack is her favorite.

Thomas not only buys clothing but sells her clothes as well on consignment at Camille’s.

James Derosia explained, “It’s the largest consignment shop where people can bring their clothing and set up an account, and as the item sells, we credit their account, and then we cut them a check. You can use it as a store credit or take cash.”

They sell online as well.

Besides clothing, the store sells jewelry, shoes, vintage clothing, and costumes.

The couple, married now for just six months and now new owners of Camille’s, said Rutland is the place to be. “I feel positive about the Rutland area and investing our time and our money being in this area. I think in terms of affordability in Vermont, it’s an area where people can actually afford, you know, young people can afford to have a life here.”

James and Jadziah, full of energy, are planning to follow in his mother’s footsteps with a 33-year run at Camille’s.

Camille’s located at 44 Merchant’s Row in Rutland.

The store is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
