Nominations for the Vermont Public Places Awards program will be accepted until May 7.
The awards recognize beautifully or well-designed interior or exterior public spaces, connecting green corridors and networks of spaces that promote positive public uses and benefits. Landscape architects, planners, municipal officials, architects, engineers, non-profit and community groups and others wishing to submit a nomination will find details at go.uvm.edu/vtucf-awards along with a list of past recipients.
Nominations may be submitted for projects, such as parks, playgrounds, town forests or planned interiors, or for conceptual studies, master plans or other endeavors that create, preserve or enhance interior or exterior public spaces or connected open spaces.
Nominated projects must be located in Vermont and accessible to the public.
Submissions should include a brief synopsis outlining how the space, corridor, plan or solution addresses a design problem, community concern, local objective or environmental issue.
Projects may include public spaces associated with a downtown or village center plan, recreation planning and design, historic preservation, green infrastructure planning, wildlife management or urban and community forestry, among others.
Award recipients will be notified by May 28. They will receive a certificate and be recognized in a special online ceremony during the week of June 7.
The biennial awards program is co-sponsored by the Vermont chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Vermont Planners Association, American Institute of Architects Vermont and the Vermont Urban and Community Forestry Program, a partnership of University of Vermont Extension and the Vermont Dept. of Forests, Parks & Recreation.
